In real life I am Linda Olson and I am proud to say that I “hang” my real estate license with D. Basile Real Estate, LLC. DB Real Estate is brokered by a very experienced commercial realtor whose past careers included appraising.
I specialize in all areas of commercial real estate throughout Brevard County. This includes assisting sellers to lease or sell their property, assisting buyers in leasing or purchasing, working with investors to find the right property for their purposes, and especially assisting both buyers and sellers with vacant land. After a previous, 20+-year career as an environmental consultant I can evaluate vacant land to assist sellers in determining the percent of their property that is buildable and to set a competitive price that takes into account what a buyer may need to do to develop the land. In addition, I can help buyers to negotiate a better price on vacant land as I can help them to determine what it will take to develop a parcel in the way of environmental studies, impacts, and mitigation. I believe this makes me a very unique real estate agent, one that has expertise that few others do.
During both my environmental and real estate careers, for more than 10 years, I was actively involved with the local Home Builders and Contractors Association. The additional knowledge I gained from this association and the contacts I have with builders, remodelers, and distributors of products has given me unique information and insight into “green” building techniques for improving a home’s energy efficiency. I have been awarded the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) Green designation.
Using both careers, since 2010 I have authored and teach multiple courses that have been approved in Florida Real Estate Commission for continuing education for Realtors in Florida. These courses are predominantly centered on environmentally challenged property, green/energy efficiency and non-residential real estate, better known as commercial real estate. However, I also have classes on development, contracts, and networking. For a complete summary of all of these classes as well as short videos of me talking about the courses visit my website at http://www.educatorlinda.com.
I have also been a Florida Realtors Faculty Member since 2013 teaching residential construction classes and GRI 302 – Intro to Single Family Construction and GRI 302 – Land, Environment & Private Property Rights. I annually assist Florida Realtors to keep these classes updated.
In 2016 I broadened the geographic area of my teaching. I now also teach in Georgia as part of the Georgia Association of Realtors Partners is Education Program having had numerous classes approved. And to make my life even more complication I am also an approved provider and instructor of numerous classes approved by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission for CE for Realtors in Tennessee. Finally, I am an NAR instructor teaching their Discovering Commercial Real Estate class and their Green Designation Program.
I have a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Wildlife Management and a Master of Science degree from University of Florida in Ecology. I have been awarded NAR’s Green Designation and am a member of the National and Florida Association of Realtors.
On a more personal note, I have been married to Lee for over 30 years, although it does not seem that long. We do not have any children unless you count the various pets we have or had. Currently, that includes four rescued cats! “The kids” in order of age include: Kamikaze, , GG, Tiny Girl, and Bear . The fish don’t have names.
I love the mountains, camping, woodworking (especially woodturning), reading, puzzles and spending time with my family, not necessarily in that order. We split our time between Cocoa, Florida and our 22-acre mountain retreat outside of Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Linda,
Nice site! Was recommended to me by Michael Dreyer. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of how knowledge of environmental issues can benefit the seller as well as the buyer. I’ve been doing some marketing to commercial realtors based on the same rationale. I’m basically offering free informal desktop analyses of listed properties, along with estimates of what it would cost for prelim., Phase I, etc. If I can help with any of your listings, please let me know.
Hope you’re doing well,
Andy Conklin

I was impresssed wth your web page article content and also valued looking at your posts and had to comment upon them. I believe it is perfect. I stumbled upon your blog using a search on the internet, keep up all the excellent work, I’ll try to be sure to check back often.
Thank you so much for your input. The whole idea behind the blog is to disseminate information and hopefully provide education. I’m glad that people are finding it and that they like it. Let me know if there are any related topics that might interest you that I could do a new blog on. I have been lax with new blogs the end of last year and the beginning of this year but am gearing up for some new ones soon.
Linda,
I just stumbled upon your great and insightful blog. I have been looking at vacant land in Collier County, Florida. There looks to be 5.1 acre plots for sale out there along one of the S.R. roads. I’ve done a cursory exam, satellite imagery and then took a drive out to the various locations. Hardly any of the land is inhabited. One of the County’s online portals lists the property as Flood Zone-A. I’ve been out there since hurricane Irma and it is definitely flooded. However, the land looks to be drenched, even without the storm.
I’m interested in the vacant land for recreational purposes and not to build any residence onto.
I have a few questions, and could use some help.
Hi,
Thank you for your comment. Flood Zone A is considered to be a special flood hazard area and can, if fact, be flooded at least in part all of the time. After many years as an environmental consultant and now as a Realtor I may be able to assist you further. Please be aware that there are actually many activities that can take place on “wetlands” and that land categorized as such can be significantly less expensive. In order to assist you more I would need to know the answer to a few questions. Are you only looking in Collier County? What specific recreational uses are you talking about – camping, horses, hunting, 4-wheelers, etc.? What price are you looking to spend? Do you plan to build any type of structure on the property at all?
If you are interested in land outside of Collier County I have a listing on a property that might interest you. If not, I am sure that I can guide you to understand what considerations you might want to take into account. If you would like a flyer on the property I have listed please email me back with confirmation that the email associated with your comment is a good one. I will respond by sending the flyer. That email will also give you contact information for me if you would like to call.
I am happy to assist you if I can.
